On the first Sunday of the month, all adults worship and celebrate communion together.

Youth Ministry

Sunday School
Age-grouped classes for preschool through high school are offered from 10:30 to 11:30, September through mid-June. During the summer months, the Sunday School time is replaced with activities and games, outdoors if weather permits.

Nursery Care
Nursery care for infants to four-year-olds is available during the second half of the worship service. Care is provided by a rotation of volunteer teams (mostly parents). Children may be left in the nursery, or parents may opt to remain in the nursery with them.

Youth Group
We offer our teens several opportunities to cultivate discipleship. They meet three Sunday afternoons a month to eat, hang out, worship, and visit other members’ homes in order to connect with adult members of the Body of Christ. Our senior-high teens also meet on Tuesday nights to discuss things on a more mature and intimate level. We are intentional about our youth having safe spaces in which to ask hard questions, wrestle with God, be vulnerable with one another, connect with their community, and build relational skills in a multicultural environment.

Retreats
Our teens have several retreats throughout the year. We have a junior high retreat in the fall and a senior high retreat in the late spring, both in Camp Lake, Wisconsin. Our teens also attend senior high and junior high winter retreats at Menno Haven Camp and Retreat Center in Tiskilwa, Illinois.

Community Outreach

In 2010, after operating as a program of Living Water Community Church for a number of years, LivingWorks became a distinct nonprofit in order to expand the potential for community impact.

LivingWorks AfterSchool offers one-on-one tutoring after school to students in grades 1 through 8 from Joyce Kilmer Elementary School and also some students from area high schools. After tutoring, the following mentoring options are offered:

  • Students in grades 1 through 5 may participate in extra-curricular activities such as art, international cooking, science activities, games and sportsmanship, and SEL (social emotional learning) activities.

  • Students in grades 6 through 8 may take part in group and one-on-one mentoring. Topics are designed to teach various life skills and to prepare the students for high school and beyond.

  • High school students are offered opportunities for assistance with employment opportunities and the college application process.

MusicWorks offers affordable music lessons and classes. These are available to anyone, but particular attention is given to the local immigrant and refugee community, with the goal of applying developing skills to the music of their culture.

Please go to the LivingWorks website for more information.

Leadership

Kristin Jackson, Pastor

Kristin was installed as Living Water’s pastor in September of 2011. She has lived in Rogers Park since 1994, and has been a member of Living Water since it began. She loves this neighborhood and feels called to participate in God’s good news of reconciliation here. Kristin earned an M.Div from North Park Theological Seminary and an M.Ed from Loyola University, and worked for many years as a teacher before becoming a pastor. Kristin and her husband Julian have two teen-aged sons.

Stephen Lamb, Associate Pastor

Stephen was hired as the associate pastor of youth ministry in October of 2012. He lived in Rogers Park for a year before taking on this position, attending Living Water and volunteering with the youth ministry during that time. Stephen is married to Katherine and is dad to two school-aged children.

Olak Sunuwar, Nepali-speaking Pastor

Olak serves as pastor to Nepali-speaking individuals and families in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago through pastoral care and counseling, Bible study, and access to community and social services. Olak earned a Master of Theology (MTh) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Lutheran Theological Seminary, Chicago. Olak is married to Munna and dad to two school-aged daughters.

Alexis Ruzahaza, Swahili-speaking Pastor

Alexis serves as pastor to the East African congregation. He is married to Francine and is dad to three school-aged children.

Andi Tauber, Office Manager

Andi became the Office Manager in January of 2020, the Year of Pestilence. She will add a more serious photo and description of herself soon but meanwhile: Andi is in a constant battle to have more grace, she sings and plays (and teaches) piano, and really only plays the keyboard side of the accordion.

Geneva Redmond, Bookkeeper

Geneva became the Bookkeeper in June of 2020. She works remotely from Minneapolis, MN, where she lives with her Chihuahua Min-pin, Chia Seed.
