Neighborhood Block Party

For many years, families from the church gathered on Wednesday nights for a shared potluck meal at the meetinghouse. These potluck events began to change dramatically, however, when several kids from the neighborhood discovered the Wednesday night dinner and began to come each week. Several weekly events have grown out of the relationships initially formed at these Wednesday night meals:

Girls’ Night is a safe space for older elementary and high-school-aged girls from the Rogers Park neighborhood to share about what’s going on in their lives and engage in topical discussions and creative activities such as cooking, art projects and group games. We pray together, share our lives and laugh a lot!

Man Night takes place each Tuesday night, with up to 25 boys from the Rogers Park neighborhood in attendance. The boys share a meal, play games, engage in a brief Bible study and build relationships with men from the church.

Home Potlucks – A few families who live close to the church now host small “potluck” meals in their homes, with 4-5 kids in attendance. These smaller groups allow for deeper relationships to form between youth and adults, and shift the focus from crowd-control to connection.
